Mitch Hedberg
This painting is of my favorite comedian, the one I think was the funniest person alive, but also just… different in a way I really love. The first time I ever saw him on TV he was wearing those glasses and kind of hiding behind his hair, and I remember realizing he was shy. Like the opposite of those big bravado comedians. I really liked that.
I got to see him live at the Addison Improv once, and at one point he told a joke and then said something like somebody write that down because I’ve never told that before and I want to remember it. So I actually wrote it down on a napkin. After the show I went up to him and handed it over, and he was like, what’s this? and I said it’s the joke you asked someone to write down. And he said thank you.
He’s just so consistently funny, but never mean, never gross, just sharp and human. This painting is kind of about that feeling.
